In this learning unit we would like to introduce you to both Human Rights and the concept of Universal Design.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was established in
1948, but we might still not have been able to fully incorporate these rights
in our national legislation. Human rights are described in detail in another
learning unit, therefore we will not
elaborate on Human Rights in this learning unit. We will discuss the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons
with Disabilities (CRPD).
We will introduce you to the concept of Universal Design and the 7 principles of Universal Design.
After doing this learning unit you will have basic knowledge about the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) , the concept of Universal Design and its 7 principles.
The aim of this learning unit is to:
Provide parents knowledge about the concept of Universal Design
Provide parents knowledge about the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)
Provide parents with tools, ideas and knowledge to
advocate for their children`s rights at school level, municipal level, regional
level and state level.
We propose that you spend between 75 minutes and 120 minutes on this learning unit, because knowledge about the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) , Universal Design and the 7 principles of Universal Design is essential for advocating for the rights of your child on all levels in society.
You do not need to have any prior knowledge to take part in this learning unit.
